Patron of “Big Clean-up” President of Latvia Egils Levits and his spouse Andra Levite, together with representatives of 22 foreign embassies and Latvian Scouts and Guides, cleaned up the surroundings of Mangaļsala today during the "Big Clean-up".
"Our country and its inhabitants want to live in harmony with nature. That is why we are taking part in the "Big Clean-up" to try to eliminate the damage that man has done to nature. The second aspect is that we are trying to shape the environment around us. I am happy for everyone who participated in the Big Clean-up today," said President Egils Levits.
He also points out that clean-up is an old Latvian tradition that is also spreading to other parts of the world. "The organisers of the Big Clean-up have revived this tradition not only in Latvia, but also in the world. It is also very symbolic that representatives of 22 foreign embassies participated in the "Big Clean-up" today. This means that our idea of living in harmony with nature is spreading worldwide."
Andra Levite notes that people show their care for what they love through their actions. "We take care of what we love not only with words but also with actions. We love our family, and we take care of it with our actions. We love our country, so we take care of it with deeds. We also take care of nature with our work".
