Raimonds Vējonis
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis met with Madam Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece in the Riga Castle on Friday, 28 July 2017. During the meeting, the President of Latvia encouraged the Saeima to assess whether the parliamentary inquiry committee under the leadership of Ms Inguna Sudraba would be able to fulfil the tasks that the Saeima had entrusted, and to strengthen public confidence in the state power and the rule of law in the matter of the talks in Hotel Ridzene.

The President of Latvia also informed that he sent a letter to the leaders of the Saeima fractions today by calling for an assessment of the suitability of I. Sudraba as the Head of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee.

“So that the Committee could fulfil the tasks entrusted to it and to achieve the result, all members of the Committee must have good reputation and enjoy public support. There can be no doubt about the potential interest of the members of the Committee or other circumstances that might hinder the quality and efficiency of the Committee’s work,” emphasised Raimonds Vējonis.
