Valsts prezidents atzinīgi novērtē Valsts robežsardzes paveikto Latvijas ārējās robežas aizsardzībai
In order to get acquainted with the achievements of the State Border Guard (SBG) while ensuring the inviolability of the state border of Latvia, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis visited the SBG infrastructure objects in the territories under supervision of Vilaka and Ludza Administrations of the State Border Guard and met with the academic staff and cadets of the SBG College on 22 and 23 March

The President of Latvia appreciated the accomplishments in strengthening the capacity of the SBG staff as well as establishing the necessary infrastructure for the border guard units located on the eastern border of Latvia and Vientuli, Class II, and Terehova, Class I, border checkpoints.

“The investments made so far in the eastern border areas of Latvia to strengthen the ability of the State Border Guard to perform the duties entrusted to it well have fully justified themselves. The State Border Guard is able to protect the eastern border of Latvia and the entire European Union,” emphasised Raimonds Vējonis after the visit.

The President of Latvia and the SBG management agreed that the progress should be continued in the light of modern challenges regarding both human resources and material and technical provision.

During his meeting with the academic staff and cadets of the State Border Guard College, Raimonds Vējonis stressed, “Latvian border guards are not only a business card of Latvia but also of the entire European Union. The State Border Guard College is a place where both existing and emerging border guards master knowledge and professionalism coming not only from Latvia but also from other countries.” The President of Latvia wished the cadets that the knowledge and professional skills acquired at the College would be the basis for the path of every Latvian border guard to professional growth and achievements.

The regional working visit of the President of Latvia to the eastern border area will continue in Zilupe Region, where the meeting with the teachers and pupils of the Zilupe Secondary School as well as meetings with the councillors and business community are planned.
