On 21 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs participated in the closing event of the readers' choice and letter campaign 'In search of a good family physician', organised by the 'Veselība' magazine at the House of the Blackheads.
Today, we have the opportunity to express our gratitude to the family doctors and nurses who have been recognised by readers for their compassion, competence and professionalism. This represents a great honour and appreciation from patients, which, after all, is the most important validation of all. There are many different awards, often granted by professionals and juries. Different criteria are proposed and assessed, which is good. This, however, serves as a reflection of the opinion and gratitude of the people.
You embody patience as a virtue. You are often faced with the situations, where your recommendations are heard, but not followed. You are often the last source of hope in situations where a positive outcome is no longer attainable. And yet, no matter the circumstances, you continue to carry out your duty and help people.
What can I wish you all today? I wish you had to deal with less paperwork - I know you have much of it. I wish all of your patients were in better health. Less work, more joy and greater energy!
In his address to family doctors and nurses said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
