President of Latvia Egils Levits met with the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mrs Síofra O’Leary, in Strasbourg today. President of Latvia appreciated good cooperation between ECHR and ECJ and expressed Latvia's support for creating a Special tribunal to try Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
The President of Latvia also visited the Council of Europe today, and in a conversation with the Secretary General of the Council, Mrs Marija Pejčinović Burić, expressed support for the Council of Europe reform and the digital agenda. E. Levits highlighted the priorities of the upcoming Latvian Presidency of the Council of Europe starting mid-May which will be the rule of law, strengthening democracy and media freedom. A major focus of the conversation was support for Ukraine and Russia's responsibility for the crime of aggression in Ukraine.
