On 27 November, during his working visit to the Republic of Korea, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Joint Security Area (JSA) to gain first-hand insight and understanding of the current situation in the Demilitarised Zone in the context of the involvement of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The Demilitarised Zone is a 4 km wide and 250 km long strip of land, situated between North and South Korea, which was established after the Korean War in 1953. Its purpose is to act as a buffer zone between the two countries.
