President of Latvia Egils Levits today addressed students at the 58th Baltic Peoples' Congress.
President of Latvia Egils Levits:
The Baltic Peoples' Congress symbolises our historical community. Student corporations have made a significant contribution to the founding of our country, and it is very important that we continued the work of our corporations in exile, thus building a bridge between pre-war Latvia and the restored Latvia. Today, Latvian student corporations occupy an important place in our civil society and provide an opportunity for our young intellectuals to learn both academic skills and human skills to build friendships, build loyalty, build their personalities.
In his address, E. Levits focused on what he saw as the three main contemporary challenges dominating public discourse in Europe and the world. These are security, Europe's role in the world and the impact of modern technologies on democracy and society.
