Today, during a remote meeting with Andra Levite, First Lady of Latvia and wife of President of Latvia Egils Levits, Mrs Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine alongside its president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, sincerely thanked Mrs Levite and all people of Latvia for their vital support to Ukraine and its refugees in Latvia. ‘You were the first among first ladies and gentlemen to declare your support to Ukraine and we cannot thank you enough for that. Latvian nation deserves a big, big thank you for the enormous and much-needed support in fighting the war, and to Ukrainian refugees who have found safe harbour in Latvia,’ Mrs Zelenska said.
Andra Levite underlined that in addition to her personal support, Ukraine and its refugees can also count on broad support from the government of Latvia and its people. She praised the courage of Ukrainians, and their confidence in future revival and progress of their state. ‘War began 100 days ago. Many brave and patriotic Ukrainians have come out of these treacherous times, including women who are here in Latvia and dream of returning home to rebuild Ukraine from ruins. Young Ukrainian politicians in Davos who fight for Ukraine. Brave Ukrainian mayors who keep up their important work despite the tragedy of war around them,’ Andra Levite said. She also praised Ukrainian diplomatic mission and Latvian NGOs for their continued efforts.
Mrs Levite mentioned that she is excited to part of the Ukrainian-Latvian ABC reveal party. ‘It will keep the bond between Ukrainian children in Latvia and Ukraine strong, and allow them to feel more confident here,’ Andra Levite said about the book inspired by Olena Zelenska.
First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, thanked Andra Levite for her support to healthcare projects that envisage medical and psychological assistance to Ukrainian children traumatised by war. ‘Mental and physical trauma of the war must be treated as soon as possible in children.
