On 22 December, at the Riga Castle, President of Latvia Egils Levits swore in Jānis Pleps as the new justice of the Supreme Court.
‘Our judicial branch will be significantly reinforced by Jānis Pleps who holds valuable professional and academic experience. He has been extremely prolific on the academic side and authored more than 150 publications in public law. His expertise will definitely help him adjudicate administrative cases as a judge. Thank you, Mr Pleps, for the impeccable service and contribution to the output of the presidency of Latvia,’ President of Latvia said at the swearing in of Jānis Pleps.
Jānis Pleps served as the constitutional law adviser to the president of Latvia from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, he became legal policy adviser at the Presidential Chancery – a position he occupied to this day.
