Today, October 25, the National Security Council (NSC) reviewed a number of topical issues related to national security. The NDP also took note of the application of the National Armed Forces (NAF) Commander, Lieutenant General Raimonds Graube addressed to President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, where the NAF Commander appealed to retire him from the office before the end of the term.

According to Article 14 of the National Armed Forces Law, the NAF Commander is confirmed in office for four years and is dismissed by the Saeima upon the motion of the President of Latvia.

The NAF Commander has previously worked for the Ministry of Defence, and he has been the NAF Military Representative to NATO. R. Graube began his service in the NAF as a Deputy Commander of the Guard Company of the National Guard Headquarters Battalion in 1991.
