On 25 October, President Edgars Rinkēvičs will open the National Competitiveness Forum at the Riga Castle. During the forum, local and international experts will discuss the role of science, innovation, data accessibility, and digitalisation, as well as the efficiency of public administration in promoting national competitiveness. The forum is organised upon the initiative of the National Competitiveness Commission.
As part of the National Competitiveness Forum, experts will partake in a series of panel discussions to exchange views and offer recommendations on how to best measure the impact of science on the economy, how science can serve to attract for investment, and how to facilitate collaboration between scientists and entrepreneurs. The discussion will also address the challenge of implementing objective-oriented and result-oriented decision-making and execution processes. Additionally, the participating experts will evaluate the current efficiency of public administration and propose measures, with particular attention to the recommendations set by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). To prepare for the Forum, the Chancery of the President of Latvia and the National Competitiveness Commission, in cooperation with the Science and Innovation Centre of Riga Technical University, organised a competitiveness hackathon in early October. This event brought together public administration officials, policy makers, entrepreneurs, academics and students.
The National Competitiveness Commission brings together experts from education, science and business. It serves as a strategic think-tank of the institution of the President of Latvia, building conclusions and models for action based on data and analysis to contribute to improving Latvia's performance in innovation and competitiveness indicators.
