After the ceremony, President of Latvia Egils Levits congratulated the new judges: ‘Dear new justices, your vast court work experience is a valuable asset that sets you apart from other up and coming judges who are only starting out as judicial officers. Moreover, two of you have graduated from law programmes offered by regional universities, which shows that good legal education can also be found outside the capital, in regional universities of Latvia. One of you is also a trained political scientist. That is an important bonus because political and legal science often go hand in hand. I would also like to stress that the oath you just gave covers all legal norms and paradigms that a judge should follow in his or her everyday work and judgements. Congratulations on making another step up the judicial career ladder. I hope you will do your best to enhance the efficiency of judicial system and deliver your services, if I may say so, to the people in the best possible way.’
