“During the project “Rediscovery of National Treasure” adolescents had an opportunity to visit many nationally important objects in Latvia. It is a great pleasure for me to introduce the winners of the first stage with the Riga Castle, which is a significant cultural and historical landmark,” said First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone today during her meeting with the winners of the first stage of project “Rediscovery of National Treasure”, students of group No. 208 of Jelgava Technical School.

 

Iveta Vējone indicated that with the approaching centenary of the State of Latvia, any initiative and project of that kind strengthened our sense of patriotism and raised pride of belonging to one’s people and country. “So that self-confident and educated young generation would grow up, we must engage as many children and young people in various projects related to discovering the Latvian heritage as possible,” said Iveta Vējone during the opening of the initiative.

 

School Youth Initiative “Rediscovery of National Treasure” initiated by young people from Jelgava City, Jelgava and Ozolnieki region, is one of the activities of the celebration of the centenary of the State of Latvia. During the first stage of the activity, forms had an opportunity to visit 20 nationally significant objects, do some tasks and compete for prizes there. The winners of the first stage in Jelgava City – group No 208 of the Jelgava Technical School and their allies, group No. 210 –managed to discover 14 of the 20 national treasures included in the initiative in less than two months.
