On 20 February, President of Latvia Egils Levits, who is currently at the annual security conference in Munich, met with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva and exchanged views on the impact of the pandemic on European and global economy, rate of unemployment and inflation. On the current situation in Latvia, IMF Managing Director praised Latvia for doing well in overcoming the economic consequence of Covid-19.
Egils Levits and Kristalina Georgieva discussed how Russia’s growing aggression against Ukraine has affected the situation and how tensions and potential sanctions will impact European Union economies.
Ms Georgieva thanked Latvia for its expertise on causes of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
President of Latvia also took the opportunity to invite the managing Director of IMF to visit the Three Seas Riga Summit and Business Forum that will take place this June.
