President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis emphasises, “Latvia and Norway share similar values and close cooperation both on a regional and international level. We face similar challenges, and we team up to overcome them. The official visit of HRH Crown Prince Haakon and HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway to Latvia testifies that statement. We will continue to work together when advocating the shared values like democracy, freedom, and equality.”
During the official visit, HRH Crown Prince and HRH Crown Princess of Norway will visit the Riga Castle, where they will meet with President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis and First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone, as well as other Latvian officials. After the visit to the Riga Castle, HRH Crown Prince and HRH Crown Princess of Norway will lay flowers together with the President of Latvia and Mrs Iveta Vējone during an official ceremony at the Freedom Monument.
During the day, HRH Crown Prince of Norway will participate in the Norwegian-Latvian Business Forum. A visit to the National Library of Latvia is also scheduled for the official exchange of state gifts: the donation of a book by HRH Crown Prince Haakon and HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway to the People’s Bookshelf. There will be a visit to the NLL Children’s Reading Room and meeting with the students from the Grammar School of Nordic Languages and the Valmiera Pargauja Grammar School.
At the end of the official visit, the President of Latvia and Mrs Iveta Vējone will host the formal dinner in honour of HRH Crown Prince Haakon and HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway in the Riga Castle.
This visit symbolises the close friendship and good relations between Latvia and Norway, and it is considered a special honour for our country to mark its centenary.
