On 29 April, President of Latvia Egils Levits and Mrs Andra Levite hosted the honouring of the best family physicians and nurses in 2021. The 2021 winners of the campaign ‘Looking for a good GP’ were awarded at the Riga Castle.
‘You are excellent, forward-oriented and innovative healthcare professionals who put patients’ needs first. No other healthcare professional in our health system has that close relationship with a patient. General practitioners have full information about their patients, including more personal, family details. You are always on the front line because you have to provide the primary level care. Moreover, in the past two years, as we were fighting Covid-19, you had to put in extra work. Thank you all for the job well done!’ President said at the ceremony.
‘When we graduate and become doctors we solemnly swear to devote our life to serving the humanity. This task requires us to constantly follow new research and developments around the globe. That is how we give our patients here in Latvia the best available treatment and bring down the morbidity and mortality rates for cancer and other diseases of civilisation. I wish you lots of energy, strength and good health to continue serving our society,’ Mrs Andra Levite, who is a gynaecologist by background, said to everyone gathered for the ceremony.
