In her speech, the First Lady of Latvia said that the project was important support for all the parents, whose little babies had harried and come slightly too early to this world. “It is very important that there is confidence in this very special time full of excitement that the baby will be provided with all necessary medical care and it would be under the Safe Pallium, auspice of professional physicians, for the first years of its life,” said Iveta Vējone.
She welcomed the activity of contributors, involvement of supporters, and state support that was a proof of the success of the campaign. This assistance will ensure many more opportunities for addressing a specialist in due time and to monitor the development and health of a premature baby. The statistics also prove the necessity of such program, as a number of visits to a neonatologist under this program has increased in 2015.
A pilot project of dynamic monitoring program for premature babies was launched in March 2015. There are 195 children, former patients of Neonatal Clinic, enrolled to the register of Children’s Clinical University Hospital (BKUS). There were 893 visits to the neonatologist registered last year under that program that was approximately six times more than before the program was launched, according to the information of BKUS.
The First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone is the patroness of the program “Safe Pallium” since its launch on 8 October 2015.
