Statement of the President Egils Levits:
I thank the National Alliance ‘All for Latvia!’ – ‘For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK’ and ‘New Unity’ for the high evaluation of my work and for inviting me to continue this work for the next four years. I represent clear values – Western and Latvian values. This is my conviction, and I have proved it in these four years.
Electing the President by a majority in which pro-Kremlin parties play a decisive role is unacceptable in this situation. It would send a dangerous and wrong signal to our society and to our allies. Therefore, in this situation, I would be prepared to stand again for the next four years.
I believe that the President of Latvia should be elected not with an arithmetical majority, but with a political majority that does not include pro-Kremlin parties. Therefore, I call on the coalition to be united and responsible on this issue.
