Egils Levits welcomes North Macedonia’s efforts to enter into the final stretch of its NATO accession process

Today, President of Latvia Egils Levits, who is at the Munich Security Conference, met with the President of the Republic of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski. Egils Levits praised the progress of North Macedonia in finalising its accession to NATO.

President Pendarovski pointed out that North Macedonia followed the experience of Baltic countries in the NATO integration process. Egils Levits invited North Macedonia to join the Latvia-based NATO Multinational Division Headquarters North after the country’s accession to the Alliance.

President Levits and President Pendarovski also discussed issues related to strategic communication and media literacy.

Egils Levits and Stevo Pendarovski touched upon the development and reform process in North Macedonia, and President Levits underlined that Latvia has always supported the European aspirations of Western Balkan countries.

President Pendarovski was keenly interested in Latvia’s re-emigration experience, which is an issue also important for the North Macedonia.
