On 18 July, at Riga Castle, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister of Health Līga Meņģelsone to discuss current issues in the health sector.
The President of Latvia was briefed on the main priorities of the Ministry of Health and the main objectives of the health sector in 2023 and 2024, as well as the allocation of the planned additional funding in 2023.
The parties discussed the ongoing reforms and measures to clean up the health care system, in particular focusing on the current health care financing model, the challenges of the hospital network, staff shortages and the pay gap between health workers in Riga and the regions of Latvia.
‘Quality and accessible healthcare, regardless of where people live and where they are located, is in the interest of all of us in Latvia. I am committed to continue to maintain a close and regular dialogue with the management of the health sector,’ said President E. Rinkēvičs.
