On 19 September, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Crown Prince Alois of Liechtenstein. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Russia's aggression against Ukraine and cooperation in international organisations. ‘There is a positive political dialogue between our countries, and I see potential to strengthen economic cooperation,’ said the President of Latvia.
During the meeting, E. Rinkēvičs expressed the view that joint efforts should continue to ensure comprehensive accountability for the international crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine.
‘I would like to express my appreciation for the excellent work of the Liechtenstein legal experts in the discussions on the ad hoc international tribunal. Like-minded countries need to coordinate how to achieve our ultimate goal of ending impunity for the crime of aggression. Like Liechtenstein, we are advocating reform of the United Nations Security Council, including limiting the use of the veto. We are happy to work together to ensure greater accountability and transparency in the UN,’ said President Rinkēvičs.
