During the meeting in the Saulkrasti Regional Council, the President of Latvia and Chairperson of the Regional Council Ervīns Grāvītis and the Councillors the current issues and challenges of the coastal municipality in order to provide the opportunities of local population to receive high-quality services. In their turn, representatives of the Saulkrasti Business Association informed the President of Latvia about the current successful co-operation with the municipality, as well as the necessary measures to strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses in both Latvian and international markets.
In the Saulkrasti Secondary School, the President of Latvia met with teachers and students and answered the questions students were interested in. In his turn, when visiting the Children and Youth Centre Youth House, the President of Latvia familiarized himself with the work of the Centre and discussed the opportunities provided by the municipality with the young people to enjoy high-quality leisure time and develop their talents.
At the Skulte Port in Zvejniekciems, Saulkrasti Region, the President of Latvia got insight in the operation of the port and visited two companies operating there. ASK Enterprise Ltd. is a company with 25 years of experience in the production of various steel and aluminium products, including the manufacture and repair of ships, yachts, and boats. In its turn, Skultes kartons Ltd. is a company that has been producing corrugated paper and cardboard, as well as paper and cardboard packaging products for almost 10 years. The company successfully exports its products to Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, and Norway.
At the end of the visit, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis acknowledged, “Close cooperation between local governments and entrepreneurs is crucial for the regional development. The initiatives that the Saulkrasti municipality implements by developing various infrastructure in the region motivate entrepreneurs to invest in the region themselves in order to provide the necessary services to local population and visitors jointly. The companies I visited today in the Saulkrasti Region, also demonstrate the ability of our entrepreneurs to produce both specific and widely sought after products in high quality and in accordance with modern consumer requirements.”
During the regional visit to the Youth House, First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone met with representatives of the Saulkrasti Seniors’ Association and visited the Saulkrasti Social Care Centre, where she met the tenants and enjoyed a musical performance. In the preschool educational establishment Rukitis, Mrs. Iveta Vējone participated in a performance prepared by the children, visited the module-type building for the youngest children installed in summer of 2018, and met the management and educators of the preschool educational establishment in an informal format.
