On 16 October, District Court Judge Elvijs Vēbers took the oath before the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs at the Riga Castle.
Addressing the new judge, President Rinkēvičs said: "I congratulate Mr Vēbers on this significant milestone in his life and professional career, becoming a judge of the Riga District Court and assuming the highest function of justice and the rule of law in our country. I am confident that your previous work experience, your activities at the Bar and your knowledge will give you a very good foundation for this important position. Remember that people in our country expect from the courts both justice and fairness, and that the particular nuances of each person and each case will be assessed in accordance with the law, justice and also conscience. I wish you every success in your new position, and I am confident that you will be able to bear the high name of the Judge of the Republic of Latvia with honour."
