Egils Levits
Sācies darbs pie Satversmes VIII nodaļas komentāriem
On 10 March, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with the authors of Satversme (Constitution of the Republic of Latvia) Chapter VIII ‘Fundamental human rights’ constitutional commentary volume for practitioners in the Riga Castle to give ‘pep talk’ to authors before the commencement.

President of Latvia thanked the Constitutional Court and authors of the forthcoming book for commencing the work and stressed: ‘The crucial role of applied commentary is to provide future guidance. These comments will offer informed vision on possible future case-law changes to barristers and all members of the society who are keen to learn more about and try to predict the outcomes of a trial. Applied commentary cannot be intended as a ‘compendium’ of bench practices. Authors of comments must be aware of the needs of readers and try to fuse the existing case law with necessary best practices.’

Satversme Chapter VIII ‘Fundamental human rights’ applied constitutional commentary is a volume that will benchmark the core human rights provisions of Satversme against relevant international and European Union legal framework and bench practices. The book will focus on deep integration of Latvian legal space into common European legal space, as well as highlighting the openness of national legal space to changes and transfer of progressive legal practices.

President of Latvia Egils Levits has been invited to draft comments to Section 91 of Satversme.
