Raimonds Vējonis
The card design “Christmas in Latvia” created by Ms Victoria Jakovleva, Student from the Preili Music and Art School, is a winner of the Christmas Card Design Contest of the President of Latvia organised by the Chancery of the President of Latvia. The drawing will be used in the Christmas card design of the President of Latvia in 2018.

The President of Latvia had a special affection for the drawing “On the Way to Christmas” by Mr Karlis Sturmanis, Student from the Smiltene Art School, where the President of Latvia was portrayed skiing on a hill.

The Evaluation Commission acknowledged the card design “Waiting for Christmas Miracle” created by Mr Einars Juhnevics, Student from the Spogi Music and Art School, the card design “Christmas Ornament” created by Ms Kitija Jermolajeva, Student from the Dagda Music and Art School, the card design “Waiting for Christmas!” created by Ms Anete Porcika, Student from the Kaleti Music and Art School, and the card design  “Joyful Mummery” created by Ms Solvita Ragausa, Student from the Preili Music and Art School. In its turn, the card design “Winter Morning” created by Mr Valts Porietis, Student from the Ropazi Music and Art School, was recognised for originality.

In total, 82 designs were submitted from various Latvian educational establishments, which implement vocational education- aimed curricula in the field of art, created by students aged 7 to 16 years. In their visual artworks, students depicted the Riga Castle, folk traditions characteristic for Christmas or Winter Solstice, symbols of Latvia, nature, and urban landscapes.

President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis and a special commission set up by the Chancery of the President of Latvia evaluated the card designs submitted for the contest. During the evaluation of the designs, there were the conformity of the card design to the requirements, the originality of the author’s creative idea, the thematic solution of the task, composition, and quality of technique taken into account.
