Raimonds Vējonis
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis will award the ten best authors of competition of student creative work “My Speech as the President of Latvia on the Birthday of Latvia” in the Riga Castle at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9.

 

The Panel of the competition chose the best authors this year:

  • Angelina Germanoviča, Jelizaveta Korotkova and Kristaps Isods from form 12, Ilūkste Secondary School No. 1;
  • Darja Bernikova from form 7, Jelgava Primary School No. 2;
  • Dāvids Rubens from form 9, Rudzāti Secodary School; 
  • Diāna Heislere from form 11, Rīga Secondary School No. 64;
  • Enia Špakovska from form 7, Rīga Estonian Primary School;
  • Igors Lobzanovs from form 7, Dobele Secondary School No 1;
  • Katrīna Taupmane from form 8, Sigulda State Grammar School;
  • Kristīne VinokurovaDaniela Čapķeviča and Airita Olehnoviča from form 10, Dagda Secondary School;
  • Rihards Tuks from form 11, Druva Secondary School in Saldus Region;
  • Romāns Gagunovs from form 12, Rīga Secondary School No. 19.

The authors of ten best speeches will receive memorial awards. During the event, the three best authors will be also announced, who will have an opportunity to take part in the festive concert at the Latvian National Theatre on November 18 and their speeches will be included in the festive program.

 

In general, 274 essays and 25 videos speeches were submitted for the competition this year.

 

The Chancery of the President of Latvia organize the competition to promote patriotism and civic engagement of Latvian students and to facilitate interest in statehood and authority of the President of Latvia. Students from forms 5 to 12 from Latvian schools were invited to participate in the competition, by drafting their essay or video speech on the birthday of Latvia that is November 18, what they would say if they were the President of Latvia.

 

The Panel assessed the creative works and its members were Adviser for Constitutional Affairs to the President of Latvia Jānis Pleps, Head of the Press Service of the Chancery of the President of Latvia Ilze Salna, Chair of the Expert Group for Social Cohesion of the President of Latvia Liesma Ose, Associate Professor of the University of Latvia Ivars Ījabs, and Assistant Professor of Riga Stradins University Klāvs Sedlenieks.
