First Lady Andra Levite visited Kyiv on 23 July to take part in Ukraine and the World: The Future We (Re)build Together, the first ladies and gentlemen summit hosted by Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska. ‘Latvia, from government to businesses and civil society, stands with Ukraine today, tomorrow, and certainly after the victory of Ukraine in this brutal war. Latvia is ready to be part of the renewal process,’ Andra Levite assured the participants of the summit.
‘They will not only rebuild Ukraine’s infrastructure and economy, but will also cultivate the best knowledge, practices and technologies to create a new and modern European state,’ First Lady of Latvia praised global efforts to begin the reconstruction of Ukraine.
‘For more than 50 years, the Latvian people suffered the same pain that Ukrainians are currently facing. For this reason, and without any doubt or hesitation, Latvia has supported Ukraine on all fronts—political, military and humanitarian. We will continue to do so in future as well,’ Mrs Levite said in her speech at the opening of the summit.
First Lady focused her intervention during the panel discussion ‘Health recovery: physical and mental’ on the on-going and future medical and humanitarian support from Latvia. According to Mrs Levite, since the war began, Latvia has focused on providing medical aid to Ukraine in order to help with the immediate needs of healthcare facilities and their wounded patients, and emotional rehabilitation for the victims. ‘It won`t be question of years to heal the wounds of Ukrainian people, but a matter of generations,’ Andra Levite said.
