President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis accredited Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro Ljiljana Tošković and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand Kiattikhun Chartprasert to Latvia on October 4.

 

During the meeting with the Ambassador of Montenegro, the President of Latvia called for the strengthening of political dialogue and economic, cultural, and educational co-operation with Montenegro.

 

The President of Latvia congratulated Montenegro for the decision of the NATO Summit in Warsaw on accession of Montenegro to NATO, and he expressed Latvia’s support for accession negotiations of Montenegro to the EU. The President of Latvia called on Montenegro to continue the reforms, especially in the field of justice, economics, and public administration, and he reiterated Latvia’s willingness to share the experience gained during its closer integration into the European Union.

 

The need to strengthen bilateral relations between the countries and the successful cooperation within the framework of international organizations was among the main topics of the negotiations, when the President of Latvia met with the Ambassador of Thailand.

 

“Latvia is confident that such cooperation formats like ASEAN and ASEM provide a valuable opportunity to discuss many important regional and global issues in an informal setting,” said Raimonds Vējonis.

 

The parties discussed the successful bilateral cooperation in tourism, education, and culture. The Ambassador of Thailand stressed importance of strengthening trade relations of the EU and Thailand by signing the EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement in the future.

 

During the meeting with the Ambassador, the President of Latvia called on Thailand to deliver democratic changes through general elections.
