On 27 May, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Her Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France Ms Odile Soupison. This was a farewell visit of the Ambassador before leaving Latvia. In appreciation of significant input in strengthening of bilateral ties between Latvia and France, President of Latvia presented H.E. Ms Soupison the Order of the Three Stars and appointed Ambassador the Commander of the Order.
President of Latvia awarded the highest state honours and thanked the Ambassador for active engagement in bringing Latvia and France closer since her posting in 2016.
President Levits and Ambassador Soupison discussed the support of France for setting up of Latvian National Council, and its role in promoting dialogue on European values and future of the European Union (EU). Egils Levits and Odile Soupison also touched upon French presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2022.
President Levits praised Ambassador for supporting the Latvian centenary celebrations and emphasising the role of France in Latvian War of Independence.
On 23 April 2020, based on provisions of Paragraph 11 of the National Orders and Awards Law, Chapter of Orders decided to award Her Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Latvia, Ms Odile Soupison, the Order of the Three Stars and appoint Ambassador the Commander of the Order for outstanding contribution to the development of Latvia. H.E. Ambassador Soupison will receive state honours according to Paragraph 56.2 of the National Orders and Awards Law, which allows to present the Order to ambassadors leaving Latvia at the end of their posting during the farewell visit to the President of Latvia.
