Dear athletes and coaches, dear organisers and partners, dear people of Valmiera, fans, relatives and friends,
One can achieve his or her dreams through hard work and passion. Passion that radiates on others and motivates to reach for new peaks. When grassroot idea grows into a movement and national tradition we get a special feeling. And President’s Cup in Athletics is one of such special events, made even more special by the athletic community and people of Valmiera.
I am delighted to become a part of this wonderful tradition and welcome you to the 28th President’s Cup in Athletics. President’s Cup in Athletics has become a permanent fixture in the national and Baltic event calendar. Since its first year in 1995, athletes, coaches and organisers have been ‘carrying the torch’ with tremendous athletic spark, passion and commitment. Individual excellence and team support have led to high results on the track and beyond.
Sports fans are looking forward to two days of thrilling competition for the individual medals and team classification between Baltic athletes. We will witness remarkably close and exciting rivalry.
I want to say a big thank you to Valmiera Regional Council, Valmiera Olympic Centre and Latvian Athletics Association for the excellent organisation of the President’s Cup in Athletics. Thank you to everyone who worked hard and spared no effort to provide athletes with the best facilities for everyday training and make President’s Cup in Athletics a real celebration.
Dear athletes, our fingers will be crossed for you, and we will celebrate your victories. I wish athletes luck, strength and energy, and hope spectators will enjoy their efforts.
