Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Dear pilots and aviation professionals,
I am excited to be here for two reasons. First, because of our national carrier airBaltic. airBaltic is the biggest passenger airline in the Baltics, and performance of airBaltic leaves no doubt that it is a growing company, which is constantly expanding into new niches. What we are witnessing here today is yet another project which shows that airBaltic is indeed a growing company with vast advantages. There are 60 people in the new pilot training centre right now, and I, as a person not connected to the aviation industry who unfortunately mostly flies than rides a tram, think that it is quite remarkable given the current circumstances. It also shows that airBaltic is sustainable and growing business. It experiences some temporary problems due to Covid-19 virus, but all problems will pass.
Secondly, because we are in Liepāja, the capital of Kurzeme, and a bustling city. Regional development is currently at the top of the government agenda. Liepāja with its special economic zone and consistent focus of city administration on job creation and development has become a role model for other Latvian cities. Growing airBaltic and Liepāja city, which prioritises the development of its city and surrounding region, have created a strong synergy together. My congratulations to all of you on the opening of the new pilot training centre. Both airBaltic and Liepāja city are strong organisations that provide added value for the whole Latvia to benefit.
