It’s an honour for me to open the students’ innovation conference ICEBREAKERS ’19.
This Innovation hub is very important for Latvia, but it is also important for Europe and the whole world, because youth is our future and we also will live, and you will live in a completely different world than the world we see today.
It is important that you are participating in the shaping of the new world, of our common future.
You will learn here at this university, and universities have a key role in this endeavour – how to get to the future. And we need to understand and learn that ideas should be created. And not only created, but also carried out until they reach results. And that is a process. I think you are responsible for not only creating ideas but also their implementation, therefore, cross-sectoral cooperation is needed between universities, industry, politicians and society, especially civil society as a whole.
I would like to stress also the notion of common good. Common good is a notion of our constitution. It is also mentioned in some other constitutions in Europe. But for our constitution it is very important and central notion. All individuals or groups, and the society as a whole, should work for common good.
Innovators like you here today have a key role in improving and in giving our contribution to common good for the society, for Latvia, for Europe and for the whole world. Use the opportunities you will learn about today. The future starts now.
Have a good conference!
