Raimonds Vējonis
Dear audience of the festive concert! Dear compatriots!   Today, when we celebrate such an important celebration for Latvia, everybody joins the common feeling of pride of our country and of our fellow citizens.

This day is an opportunity for us to reconsider the values supporting the foundations of statehood, that is, trust in Latvia, in common future of the Latvian people in their independent country, love of homeland, national self-confidence, cultural richness, and virtue of work.

The young people, who took part in the contest “My speech as the President of Latvia on Latvia’s birthday”, expressed their ideas this year as well, what they would like to emphasize in their speeches on November 18, when the whole Western world faces great challenges of values and life. They call for appreciating own country, language, traditions, and the fact that we actually are stronger than we think we are. Children and young people in their judgments are much more honest and open, so I am confident that we should be able to hear those thoughts and also listen to them by acting.

Everybody of us can achieve a lot in our lives if we really wish and act decisively. Each should start with arranging oneself and his or her immediate surroundings, and that must become the basis for growth. However, the crucial thing to remember is that we may not distance ourselves and think only about one’s own home.

We can succeed by joint effort that ensures prosperity, provides necessary sense of strength and national dignity. While pursuing the following objectives, we cannot afford to fall into minor disputes and mutual pique or stand aside indifferently, when we can help Latvia with our knowledge, work, and experience.

There are many significant achievements in Latvia during 25 years since restoration of independence: on the international arena, state administration, science, culture, and sports. However, there is still a lot to be done, thus thoughtful and responsible decisions shall be made in every area, should it be formation of state budget, support for education, healthcare, businesses, science, and culture.

Today during the awarding ceremony of the highest state awards, I expressed gratitude to the persons, who make us proud of their contribution to national development. Let us applause the persons receiving the highest state awards!

I call for everybody to be aware at the celebration and on daily basis that anyone builds the state of Latvia with his or her work, energy, commitment, and determination. In addition, together we can really accomplish a lot.

We can surely say that Latvia is a free and developed country, and we can feel safe at our home and be proud of our home.

Let us feel it during the concert on the occasion of Latvia’s birthday as well! I would like to thank musicians, who create the sense of festivity throughout Latvia every year!

Let this evening be full of wonderful music and good thoughts in every family!

God bless Latvia!
