Andris Bērziņš, President of Latvia (2011-2015), brought forward facilitation of prosperity of Latvia and its population given in his affirmation of the President of Latvia as the main leitmotif of his activities. In fulfilling his affirmation, Andris Bērziņš together with government officials, businesspersons, and heads of educational institutions visited foreign countries in order to expand Latvian export markets and look for new cooperation opportunities for Latvian business community. At the same time, the President of Latvia stood strongly for strengthening of Latvian external and internal security by increasing defence capabilities and establishing dialogue among different social and ethnic groups in Latvia. During his presidential term, Andris Bērziņš addressed the Latvian Parliament repeatedly in order to propose changes to the existing legislation. The most significant legislative initiatives submitted to the Latvian Parliament were related to strengthening of executive power and political parties.
